Nassau County, New York overrun with raccoons

Rabid raccoons were first found in Nassau County, New York around 2004. There are so many animals in this area that complete raccoon removal was not practical so an aggressive trapping and vaccination program was instituted under the Nassau County Department of Health.

Over 400 raccoons were trapped and vaccinated with unknown additional animals receiving rabies vaccine through strongly scented vaccine filled baits.
